Sarah Jessica Parker starred in the original Sylvia in 1995. Now the Boca Raton Theater Group’s rendition of Sylvia is playing for fall at Boca Raton’s adorable Willow Theater at Sugarland Park through October 14th .
Mario Betto is one of the stars who magically transforms into three separate characters. Betto plays a therapist, a dog lover friend who gives advice to Greg and a socialite friend who gives advice to Kate. Mario Betto delivers an astounding performance as all three characters.
Theatre Critic Ron Levitt notes, “Betto, too, tackles his/her three roles with giant steps. He is an actor not seen enough in local productions.”
Sylvia was first produced in 1995 with Sarah Jessica Parker as the cute canine. It won numerous Drama Desk nominations. This play is often confused with a similar themed work by Edward Albee, about a man falling passionately in love with a goat. In that story, the goat was also named Sylvia. This Gurney play is often said to be a tribute to Albee’s genius.
Sylvia will be around in Boca Raton, Florida until Oct. 14. Call 561-948-4935 for tickets.
