Some of Hollywood’s biggest stars hit the red carpet Saturday night, for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 3rd Annual Governors Awards. The event, which is an Academy Award ceremony for honorary Oscars, drew a celebrity packed crowd that included Alec Baldwin, Rita Wilson, Seth Rogan, John Travolta and his wife Kelly Preston.

She’s been a comedian, sitcom star, talk show host and a spokesperson for a cosmetics company, but now Ellen DeGeneres is adding another job to her impressive resume: U.S. Special Envoy for Global Aids Awareness.

Nicole Kidman Gets “Wild”

Nicole Kidman has signed on to play the lead role in My Wild Life. The film is based on the life of Dame Daphne Sheldrick, a conservationist who founded an elephant orphanage in Kenya.   

Production will begin early next year on location in Africa, and National Geographic photographers Dereck and Beverly Joubert will help with nature sequences. My Wild Life could hit theaters in time for the 2012 holiday season.

Craig Begins Shooting “Skyfall”

Daniel Craig is returning as 007 in Skyfall, the 23rd installment of the James Bond film franchise. Playing opposite Craig is No Country for Old Men star Javier Bardem as the villain, and Judi Dench returns as Bond’s boss “M.” The all-star cast also includes Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.  

Director Sam Mendes held a press conference for the film in London on Thursday. Mendes didn’t give many details about the upcoming production, but he did say it “has all the elements of a classic Bond movie.”
